The 101 whiskies journey continues with a jaunt across to the Isle of Skye. Aged in American oak for at least 10 years and bottled at 45.8% ABV. Nose: Peat smoke, ash, caramel, orange zest, sesame brittle, a little oak. 8/10 Palate: Oaky spice, hints of peat but it’s quite subtle. Quite sweet. This is very much a first for me. I’ve not had any Tobermory, or Ledaig (the peated expressions from the same distillery). Bottled at 46.3% ABV on the Isle of Mull. Hug thanks to Brian’s Malt Musings¬†for the sample. Nose: Vanilla and stewed fruits, marzipan and rum, there’s a buttery back note. After a while it develops the smell of Haribo sweets. Dram 5 of The Dram Team’s Incredible Indies box is this 21 year old Tobermory. Bottled at 51.2% ABV. Nose: Really lively, particularly considering the age, sultanas, cinnamon, Nice biscuits, pineapple Palate:¬†Raspberries, cooking apples baked with plenty of cinnamon slathered in thick double cream.
