Glengoyne – Cask Strength (Batch 5)

Glengoyne – Cask Strength (Batch 5)

I’ve had this bottle on my shelf for months and have steadily working my way through it, so I thought it was high time to add a review, particularly with it being on the 101 whiskies list. This is bottled at a hefty 59.1% ABV! Nose: Chardonnay when smelt from afar, loads of cereal. dried fruit – a tell-tale sign of the sherry influence. Can tell it’s high ABV. Watch those nose hairs! Honey sweet. Christmas spices. 7/10 Palate: Lots…

The Glenlivet – Nàdurra Oloroso Batch OL0816

The Glenlivet – Nàdurra Oloroso Batch OL0816

Part of the very popular Nàdurra range, this is a Cask Strength offering, without chill filtration or colouring. Nàdurra means ‘Natural’. Bottled at 61.3% ABV, this is one to be careful around. You may find adding water improves it for you. Nose: Acetone, almost melts the nose hairs! Be careful! Then bananas, freshly tanned leather. A little dried fruit. Let it stand for 20 minutes and you get sultanas, marzipan, milk chocolate. Adding water, and it can take a lot,…

Aberlour – A’Bunadh Batch 56

Aberlour – A’Bunadh Batch 56

This is one of those fabled drams I’ve been dying to try for ages. I am, therefore, very indebted to my very good friend Crask for sending me a good sample of this, the 56th batch of the A’Bunadh. A heavily sherried finish on this. It’s bottled at a powerful 61.2%. Nose: As soon as you pour, sherry notes waft through the air. Milk chocolate, raisins, hints of cinnamon, toasted walnuts, freshly cut straw on a hot day, that smell…

BenRiach – Batch 1

BenRiach – Batch 1

Another first for me. Not had BenRiach before. Good way to start too. Bottled at 57.2% ABV. Nose: Foam bananas, honey, plenty of vanilla and oak intermingling. Palate: Barley sugars, pineapple, apples, apricots, plenty of oaky spice, Finish: Surprisingly mellow, apples and pears linger with a lovely warming sensation.

Glenfarclas – 105 Cask Strength

Glenfarclas – 105 Cask Strength

Dram 5 of the @TheDramTeam launch Twitter Tasting. I’ve been looking forward to this, particularly with it being on my 101 whiskies list. 60% ABV Nose: Bags of acetone to start, but that’s expected due to the strength. Leave it to rest and loads of oak. Some marzipan, bay leaf and rosemary hints, morello cherries. Palate: Do I dare taste this neat? I’ve got to really. Surprisingly mellow to start. Sweet and spicy. Sending a warming shot of hot sugar straight…
