Thanks to Steve Prentice for passing over this sample. It’s always good to try new drams, even if they’re not to your taste! This is a 13 year old Auchroisk from The W Club. Bottled at 46% ABV.
Nose: The first impression is one of very harsh alcohol. With a bit of persistence there is malt with apples and pears, maybe slight hints of raisins. Not much more.
Palate: Harsh spice and alcohol with an oily mouth feel. There’s malt in there but I really gave up trying to discern anything more because of the harshness of the spice.
Finish: Pretty short and lacklustre.
I really didn’t enjoy this at all, as you might have guessed. There just didn’t seem to be much depth and the harshness of the alcohol was too much for me.
