Heaven Hill – Mellow Corn

In order to qualify as a corn whiskey, it has to have 81% corn in the mash tun. The rest is made up from barley and rye. Bottled at 50% ABV Nose: Creamy and floral, malted milk biscuits, brown sugar Pallate: Very spicy but then mellows out to sweet and creamy. Really oily as well. Hints of boot polish. Finish: Lingering spice, and a long oily, mouth coating delight.   Not a drink to rush, but definitely one to have…

Haig Club

They had a 50ml bottle of this in Asda so I thought I’d best try it. A combination of first-fill, rejuvenated and refill bourbon barrel-matured whiskies are used. Bottled at 40% ABV. Nose: Really nothing much there at first nose. But then baked apples with plenty of dried fruits and sugar all smothered in vanilla custard. Some grassy/floral notes push through. Butterscotch Angel Delight in there as well. Palate: Very smooth initially with plenty of that apple acidity coming though….
