Connemara

Connemara

On 25th January 2016 I was able to take part in The Whisky Wire’s tweet tasting of 4 Beam Suntory malts. We tasted Ardmore Legacy, Connemara, Bowmore Small Batch and Laphroaig Select.

Connemara

Nose: Very briny with damp smoke, like a fire that’s just been put out with water. Oaky hints come through after a time with some leather. As it opens the smoke nearly disappears leaving marzipan and tropical fruits.

Palate: Surprisingly acrid and sharp considering that it’s an Irish pot still whisky. After a moment though Parma Violets push through.

Not sure what I make of this. I think I prefer non-peated Irish whiskey.
