Nose: Samphire grass, soggy salt marsh and brine combine with subtle dried fruits. After a little while zingy green apples and refresher sweets join the party. Palate: Very oily and chewy straight away. I like that. Pinapple, light smoke, pepper. Hints of the meat from the DO there too. After a little while freshly candied almonds and roast chestnuts.
Dark Origins Nose: Big hit of sherry first up with marzipan and dried fruits mingled in. Really heady. Lingering spice. Freshly roasting coffee pushes through after a little while. The initial heady notes mellow very quickly in the air leaving behind a dark earthy smell and a hint of 3 in 1 oil in the background. Palate: Hints of dark smoke with spice and maple syrup. A definite note of meatiness in there like Scrumpy Cider and well cooked streaky…
Deliciously smoky. Very morish. Hmmm I need better notes on this one!
8 year old blended whisky. 40% ABV Not particularly something special, but it’s won a bunch of awards and is very good value. Here’s what I think. Nose: Apples, marzipan, slight ethanol tang, mango Palate: Smooth spice, tropical fruits, light oak, hint of smoke Finish: Quite short, but pleasant. Very drinkable. Overall I have to say, for the price this is a very good drink indeed.
